Lift Your Spirits!

Know the old wives’ tale that says to treat a cold with a warm shot of whiskey? Well, we don’t know if that works, but we do know we like the way those wives think! So if you’re feeling a little under the weather, try throwing it back 19th century style with one of these recipes.*

Bourbon and Ginger
1 oz bourbon
3 oz ginger ale
1 lime wedge

Pour all ingredients into a glass with ice, squeeze lime and enjoy!

Krupnik
2 ½ cups vodka
1 cup water
1 cup honey
4 cinnamon sticks
6 cloves
2 split vanilla beans
½ orange peel
Dash of nutmeg

Bring the water and honey to a boil and remove the foam. Add cloves, cinnamon, nutmeg, vanilla and orange peel, and simmer for 15 minutes. Remove from heat and let sit for 30 minutes. Bring back to a boil and slowly add the vodka. Remove and strain into a bottle. Let sit for at least an hour before serving.

The Hemingway Toddy
2 oz whiskey, heated
3 tbsp lemon juice, heated
Honey to taste
Water to taste
Lemon wedge for garnish

Combine ingredients in glass. Stir well and garnish with a slice of lemon.

Chamomile Cocktail
2 cups dry gin
12 chamomile tea bags
6 tbsp hot water
6 tbsp honey
¾ cup lemon juice

Mix chamomile and hot water in a medium bowl. Let stand for 1 minute, then stir in honey and remove tea bags. Add the gin and lemon juice to a pitcher with ice. Divide among glasses and serve.
