If You Like Pina Coladas, Then You’ll Love This Pina Colada Recipe!

Today is National “Strained Pineapple” Day! … or as most of us know it, Pina Colada Day! Let us quench your thirst for knowledge by learning a little more about the origins of this perfect summertime sipper!

The legend of the piña colada is highly contested by three legendary Puerto Rican bartenders. Ramón ‘Monchito’ Marrero Pérez and Ricardo Garcia both claim to be the first to make the drink at the Caribe Hilton Hotel’s Beachcomber Bar in 1954 while Ramón Portas Mingot claims to have first created it in 1963 at the Barrachina restaurant in Old San Juan. The truth depends on whom you ask, but the result is always the same – delicious!

Despite the concoction’s controversy, the earliest reference to the piña colada appeared in Travel magazine in 1922, although the ingredients seem to vary from the traditional recipe we know today.

So “If you like Piña Coladas and getting caught in the rain,” celebrate National Piña Colada Day and enjoy this delicious tropical treat using our traditional recipe!
