Beat Bad Luck with These Friday the 13th Cocktails

What’s up with Friday the 13th? To many, it’s an unlucky day. The fear of Friday the 13th stems from a fear of the number 13 itself, also known as “triskaidekaphobia”. That’s one heckuva vocabulary word—try playing it in Scrabble, and everyone’s heads might implode.

So let’s put fear of bad luck aside! It’s still a Friday after all, so start the weekend right with this collection of Friday the 13th themed cocktail recipes. Be sure to stop in to your local Spec’s for all your luck-bringing essentials.

The Scary Spice
This terrifyingly tasty sipper is warm and spiced. It’s best served on a cooler evening, or if the Friday the 13th is giving you a superstitious chill.

2 parts Spiced Rum
1 part Ruby Porto
1 tsp. White sugar
Cloves
Orange wedges

Instructions:
Place port, orange, and cloves in a small pot. Warm and gently simmer for 2-3 minutes, do not bring to a boil. Pour into a snifter or stemless wine glass. Add spiced rum and stir. Add sugar if needed, serve warm, and enjoy!

Corpse Reviver no.2
A classic pick me up cocktail, first listed in the Savoy Cocktail Handbook by Harry Craddock in 1930. Try it for yourself and you’ll see why it’s lasted throughout the years.

1 oz Cointreau
1 oz Fresh lemon juice
1 dash Absinthe
Orange peel, for garnish

Instructions:
Shake all ingredients together in an ice-filled cocktail shaker; strain into a chilled martini glass. Garnish with an orange peel.

Black Cat Shooter
1 part Kahlua
1 part Hiram Walker Anisette
1 part Tequila

Instructions:
Layer slowly into a chilled shot glass starting with the Kahlua and finishing with Tequila so as to create the cool layered effect.

Good Luck Charm
1 ½ oz Bourbon
¾ oz ml Limoncello
2 oz Lemon sour
5 spearmint leaves

Put all ingredients in a shaker filled with ice and shake well. Serve in a chilled cocktail glass.
