New Beers for February Cheers! Winter Arrivals At Spec’s!

Spec’s is proud of their beer selection, which covers everything from big national brands to the best small-batch and local brews. There’s always something new to discover in the beer department. Here’s a list of the exciting new brews coming up this month!

Make sure to check out this month’s featured brewery: Full Sail Brewery from Hood River, Oregon! Full Sail IPA, Amber, and Seasonal six-packs are priced at $5.99, while 12-packs of the Session line of beers – stubby bottles of easy-to-drink premium lagers – are on sale for $9.99 through the month of January.

One of the newest Texas breweries, Pedernales, is now available at Spec’s! With both light and dark lagers and ales, this is a great entry into the growing Texas brewery tradition!

Sierra Nevada’s Bigfoot Barleywine Style Ale 4-packs will arrive in Spec’s stores by the end of the month. This seasonal stunner blends a robust beer flavor with the refinement of wine – and like some wines, it can actually be cellared, so each year is vintage-dated!

Hop-heads are buzzing with the arrival of New Albion American Pale Ale. This “time capsule” is one of the first microbrew recipes, which went out of production 30 years ago – and has been resurrected by the Boston Beer Company.

San Diego-based Ballast Point Beers have recently come to Spec’s (and to Texas!). This microbrewery – known for mega flavors – has something for every beer lover. Ballast Point Pale Ale is an easy-to-drink, light ale, and the Big Eye and Sculpin IPAs and Black Marlin Porter are real palate-pleasers. Stop in now for the seasonal Victory at Sea Imperial Porter, a limited-release coffee vanilla porter earning raves from the Spec’s staff.

Austin Beer Works will release the first of its Heavy Machinery line within the month. The first offering will be a 16-oz black IPA sure to inspire the same accolades as the other brews under the ABW label.

Please call ahead to check the stock at your local store, since some of these great brews have limited availability. No matter what pleases your palate, Spec’s is sure to have an exciting new beer for you to cheer!

At the time of this reply, Spec’s does not carry Cornel’s beers, but check with the experts at your local store for other great options!

  1. Looking for the availability of 5 gallon kegs.I live in Nacogdoches Texas(about 3 hours away) but make regular visits to Spec’s in Houston(especially Smith street location) Would it be possible to get a list of what 5 gallon kegs you guys regularly keep in stock? I am looking for Deschutes NWPA and Spaten premium to name a few,but would love to know what else is readily available.I grew up in Houston and always look for stopping in Spec’s anytime I am there. Thanks for your time,Pat Casey

    1. Hi Pat! Thanks for your question!

The best way to see a list of kegs available is via our website, http://www.specsonline.com. Simply search with the keyword “keg.” While we can’t keep every beer in stock, we can certainly special order them for you. Most 1/6 barrel kegs are going to be craft beers, not imports. Spaten does not produce 1/6 barrels, however, as of 2/7/2013, the Smith Street store in Houston does have the Deschutes Red Chair 1/6 barrels in stock. You may wish to call the store at 713-526-8787 to find out what they have in stock before your next visit.

  2. Do you carry any beers from Double Mountain? It is another Hood River, Oregon brewery that has AMAZING beer. They just started bottling last year, but if you can get it, it would be awesome! Also, looking for a selection of Goose Island, or anything from Alpine Beer (CA). Thanks!

    1. Hello, and thanks for your question!

Unfortunately, Double Mountain is not available in Texas. They are a very small brewery that is currently only shipping beer in and around their local area.

However, there’s good news! Goose Island will be available in Texas starting in March. You may wish to call your local Spec’s in March and see what’s in stock.

Thanks for reading the blog, and stop back soon!

  3. Hello,

Do you plan on carrying beers from Deep Ellum Brewery?

How about Two Brothers, from Illinois?

    Thanks!

    1. Thanks so much for your question!

Spec’s carries Deep Ellum in the DFW area only. That is the only market where Deep Ellum distributes their bottles and cans. Hopefully, as they grow, they will expand into new Texas markets and we can offer their product in more stores. You may wish to check in with your local Spec’s store for further distribution news.

Unfortunately, Two Brothers does not ship product to Texas. They are simply too small to supply our big state!

Thanks for reading, and stop back soon!

    1. Thanks for your question!

We checked with one of the Spec’s experts and discovered that Fuller’s London Pride is available in larger Spec’s stores in Houston, DFW and Austin. You may wish to call ahead to your local store to see if it’s in stock. Hooker American Pale Ale is not available in Texas.
