Celebrate Anisette Day With These Anise Cocktails!

July 2 is National Anisette Day! While not as common in the U.S., anisette is quite popular in most Mediterranean countries. It is an anise-flavored liqueur, but unlike some anise-based liqueurs, anisette contains no licorice.

This sweet liqueur, when mixed with water, produces a milky white drink known as a “palomita,” which is popular in Spain. You can also enjoy anisette as an addition to a number of creative anise cocktails. Give one of these a try to celebrate!

Have Anise Day

2 oz gin
¼ tsp anisette
2 oz club soda
½ tsp sugar
1 oz lime juice
Splash of ginger ale

Add lime juice, club soda and sugar to a glass. Stir and add ice, anisette and gin. Stir again and top off with ginger ale.

Sweet and Sinful

2 oz bourbon
1 oz sweet vermouth
½ tsp anisette
Lemon wheel for garnish

In an old-fashioned glass filled with ice, add bourbon, vermouth and anisette. Stir well and garnish with the lemon wheel.
