Christmas is over, your in-laws drank all your good wine and now New Year’s Eve is sneaking up on you. Don’t panic. Why? Because you can just go buy more, you still have time! Do yourself a favor, though. End 2018 and start 2019 with a good bottle of Bordeaux.
We have to cover the classics first – bubbles! Make sure to check out Jean-Louis Trocard Cremant de Bordeaux, a zippy and zesty sparkler that will even appeal to the wine nerd in the group. Lemon and lime zest flavors with notes of minerality and freshness are the highlights of this bottle. This sparkling wine comes from the Trocard family, who has been in the Bordeaux wine business since the 1600s, and 14 generations.
Don’t want bubbles? No problem. Try Clos Des Lunes Bordeaux Blanc 2015! With 70% Sémillon and 30% Sauvignon Blanc this white is completely unoaked, revealing fresh clean fruit, with notes of ripe peach and Meyer lemon. This property is also owned and run by the Bernard family of Domaine de Chevalier. An absolutely wonderful white wine coming from Bordeaux, that is meant for anyone and everyone.
Chateau Batailley 2013 from Pauillac will make the biggest wine snob follow you around on New Year’s Eve, asking for more. A fifth growth, named after the battle (bataille) that took place on the grounds during the Hundred Years’ War. A dense but balanced wine that exudes classic Cabernet Sauvignon characteristics of dark fruit, some tobacco, and earthy notes. The wine is typically aged in 50% new oak barrels for about 16-18 months. An absolutely delicious wine from a vintage that was not made easily for some winemakers.
Make sure to start your New Year off right, with a SPECtacular Bottle of Old World Bordeaux wine. Cheers to 2019!!
