Mardi Gras Cocktails

The sound of jazz fills the air! Purple, green, and gold costumes are everywhere to be seen as parades fill the busting streets of downtown ‘Nawlins! It’s time for Mardi Gras! But if you’re not driving out of state to celebrate, you can celebrate Mardi Gras in the comfort of your own home with these frozen Mardi Gras cocktails!

Enjoy the delectable tastes of New Orleans, without making a long trip. The only trip you will need to make is to your local Spec’s to stock up on supplies to make these frozen cocktails.

Frozen Hurricane

Ingredients

  • 1 oz white rum
  • 1 oz Jamaican dark rum
  • 1 oz light rum
  • 3 oz orange juice
  • 3 oz unsweetened pineapple juice
  • 12 oz grenadine

Directions

  1. Put all the ingredients into a blender.
  2. Add ice and blend until slushy.
  3. Pour into a tall highball or large margarita glass.

Pomegranate Daiquiri

(Serves 12)

Ingredients

  • 3½ cup pomegranate juice
  • 1½ cup Diamond Reserve Rum
  • 1 cup cranberry liqueur
  • 2 oz cup fresh lime juice
  • Pomegranate seeds for garnish
  • Kiwi slices for garnish

Directions

  1. Combine pomegranate juice, rum, cassis, and lime juice in a large pitcher.
  2. Cover and refrigerate until cold, at least 4 hours or up to 1 week ahead.
  3. In a blender, combine 1 ½ cups juice mixture and ice cubes. Blend until slushy.
  4. Pour into large martini or wine glasses and garnish. Repeat with remaining juice.

Frozen Ramos Gin Fizz

Ingredients

  • 3 oz gin
  • 2 tbsp lime juice
  • 1½ tsp sugar
  • Soda water
  • Lemon slice for garnish

Directions

  1. In an ice-filled blender, add gin, lemon or lime juice, and sugar and blend until smooth.
  2. Pour into a glass and top with a splash of soda and garnish with the lemon.

Frozen Grasshopper

Ingredients

  • ½ cup green Creme de Menthe
  • ½ cup white Creme de Cacao
  • 1 pint vanilla ice cream
  • Whipped cream
  • Chopped layered chocolate-mint candies
  • Fresh mint

Directions

  1. In the blender container, combine Creme de Menthe, Creme de Cacao, ice cream, and about half the ice.
  2. Cover and blend until smooth.
  3. Add remaining ice; cover and blend until smooth.
  4. Pour into small cocktail glasses.
  5. Top with a dollop of whipped cream, chopped candies, and a sprig of fresh mint, if desired. Makes eight ½ cup servings.
