Celebrate National Daiquiri Day With 4 Great Daiquiri Recipes

Ernest Hemingway was known for a great many things – A Farewell to Arms, The Old Man and the Sea, famous Daiquiri enthusiast… wait, what? You heard right! Hemingway was a very outspoken fan of this classic tropical cocktail. Today we celebrate what would have surely been one of his favorite days of the year – National Daiquiri Day!

Named for a small beach town near Santiago, Cuba, the Daiquiri, as we know it today, came about in the late 19th century. Since then, countless twists on the original recipe have emerged. From frozen to pineapple Daiquiris, even Hemingway had his own favorite way of making the cocktail.

Celebrate National Daiquiri Day with these great daiquiri recipes!

Classic Daiquiri

2 oz white rum
½ tsp superfine sugar
½ oz lime juice

Add all ingredients to an ice-filled cocktail shaker. Shake well and strain into a chilled cocktail glass.

Hemingway Daiquiri

2 oz white rum
¾ oz lime juice
½ oz grapefruit juice
½ oz maraschino liqueur
Lime wheel for garnish

Add ingredients to an ice-filled cocktail shaker and shake well. Strain into a chilled cocktail glass and garnish with a lime wheel.

Dry & Spicy

2 oz white rum
1 oz lime juice
¾ oz simple syrup
6 1-inch cubes of watermelon
1 hot pepper

In a cocktail shaker, muddle watermelon and hot pepper. Add remaining ingredients and fill with ice. Shake well and strain into an ice-filled glass.

Pineapple Paradise

6 oz white rum
2 ½ oz dark rum
1 lb frozen pineapple chunks
2 cups ice
4 oz lime juice
3 oz simple syrup

Pour all ingredients except the dark rum in a blender and blend on high until smooth. Divide among 5 glasses and top each with ½ oz of dark rum.
