Star Spangled Awesome: Drink Recipes for a Delicious Fourth of July

It’s time to get out the cake and load it up with 242 birthday candles because we’re celebrating America this month! That’s right, the United States is turning 242 years old this month and we’re gonna help you rock it’s socks off with some awesome drink recipes that would have the founding fathers swapping powdered wigs for lampshades.

The Sazerac holds the honor of being the first American cocktail, so we thought it rather fitting to include here. Plus, all the spirits in this recipe are made right here in Texas. In fact, Emerald Absinthe is the first absinthe crafted in Texas.

2 1/2 oz Kooper Family Rye
1 Sugar cube
3 dashes Peychaud’s Bitters
2 dashes Angostura Bitters
1 tsp Emerald Absinthe
Lemon peel

Chill an Old Fashioned glass or small tumbler in the freezer. In a mixing glass, combine sugar Peychaud’s bitter, and a few drops of water. Mix until sugar is dissolved and add Kooper family Rye. Add plenty of ice and stir well. In your chilled glass, pour absinthe and rotate the glass well until the inside is coated; discard the excess. Strain liquid from your mixing glass and pour into the chilled serving glass. Twist a piece of lemon peel over the drink for garnish. Raise a glass to America and indulge!
