Pronounced ‘wu-meh-shoo’ this is a traditional japanese liqueur from choya is flavoured with a type of japanese plum the ume. Actually a type of apricot. The ume is only grown in japan china korea and taiwan and the best fruits are grown in minabe district of wakayama prefecture near osaka. 15% abv choya umeshu is aged for 12 years and the bottle contains whole plums. The miniature version (5cl bottle) also contains a whole plum and has a natty rip top lid. It is sweetend with honey and contains no added sugar.
