Founded in the early 1800s chateau barateau is a cru bourgeois property in the haut medoc whose vineyards are on sandy gravel soils (ideal for cabernet sauvignon). Usually equal parts cabernet sauvignon and merlot with a bit of cabernet franc and petit verdot added aged 12 months in french oak. Black fruits spice soft tannins.
