Muga Reserva Rioja
Muga Reserva is sourced from vineyards planted 15-30 years ago on terraces of calcareous clay soils dating back to the tertiary period. The grapes are hand-harvested into small crates and transported to the winery in temperature-controlled conditions. The bunches are destemmed and the grapes are optically sorted before spontaneous fermentation with indigenous yeast in large American oak vats coopered in-house at Muga. The wine ages for 24 months in a combination of French and American oak and before bottling unfiltered is fined with fresh egg whites. Once bottled the wine rests for 12 months. Muga Reserva is one of Rioja’s most honest consistent and high-quality wines with notes of bright red cherry fruit dried tobacco leaf cured leather baking spice and fresh cracked pepper.
