Of timeless distillation secrets. And it is the realm of the king of the forest the black boar to whom we owe so very much. All hail the king! Back in the 16th century Germany was largely a cluster of warring kingdoms and principalities. And many of these eyed the castle of the Hardenbergs with envy. An attack was mounted but a Schwartzhog – a black boar – began to squeal alerting the family to the threat. The castle was saved. And so since that day through our long history as distillers we’ve honored the Schwartzhog on our family crest.
