The Autrau story began in 1670 in the village of Champillon where the family began to grow grapes on their estate while rising to prominence in the art world. Until the beginning of the 1950s these grapes were sold nearby major houses and negociants. In 1953 Gerald Autrau decided to keep the grapes to produce Champagne on his own.
