William is the description for all world-known fruit distillates and liqueurs made from the William's pear (Poire William). Originally eau-de-vie de Poire William was only produced in the Swiss Rho;ne Valley. But today the spirit is also produced is also produced in Alsace. 45% ABV More than 10 kilograms of fruit are needed to produce one litre of spirit. Swiss eaux-de-vie de William are allowed to made with sugar added after distillation. However in Germany this spirit cannot be made with added sugar. Sometimes eau-de-vie de William is bottled with William pear that is grown inside of the bottle.
