At lapostolle to capture the freshness of the fruit is our mission. Young and expressive; bright and vivid define the characteristics of our casa wines. General climate conditions of rapel valley rapel valley is located in the central part of chile. It includes the sub valleys of cachapoal and colchagua. It exhibits a semi – arid mediterranean climate with a winter – only rainfall pattern. During the growing season we have warm and dry days and nights which are pleasantly cool as a result of the flow of cold breezes coming from the andes mountains. Our sauvignon blanc comes from a very special area in cachapoal directly beneath the foothills of the andes. The vines grow with the cold influence of the mountains and express all the minerality of the vineyards unique stony soil: las kuras” means “stones” in our native language. The soil the area of cachapoal where we source our sauvignon blanc has soil coming from an old river bed sourced from the cachapoal river. It is a shallow soil with many big round pebbles poor fertility and very good drainage providing components to the wine complexity. Vintage conditions in 2015 the climate conditions of the 2014-2015 anticipated the beginning of harvest and brought along with it a very particular aromatic intensity. Rainfall in this 2014 winter were higher than the last season (295 mm v/s 238 mm). Only in july rains were lower than usual average. These conditions were followed until the springtime. Overall summer in our vineyards was dry and hot. Finally march brought normal conditions. We started harvesting at las kuras the sauvignon blanc on march 3rd and finished on the 18th. Winemaking we want to enhance the best fruit that rapel valley offers its natural tipicity structure and natural acidity. Our key points are strict fruit selection natural juice decantation and low temperature fermentation in stainless steel tanks. We added 8% of semillon from our old vines from apalta vineyard and 6% of sauvignon gris; the result is a wine that kept its natural flavor and acidity delicate notes of white fruit and big complexity in the nose and a rounder mid palate an a crisp acidity. Tasting notes color: brilliant pale lime yellow. Nose: very expressive with aromas of tropical fruit and delicate citrus notes. White fruit such as peach and herbal tones. Taste: balance and fresh palate vibrant and fresh acidity good volume and a long lasting finish. Service and food matching: perfect for cod fish with vegetables or chilean sea bass and sea food in general. Serve well chilled from 6 to 8°c (42°f to 46°f).” – casa lapostolle “las kuras is right at the foothills of the andes i am used to have them as a companion. These majestic mountains are a silent witness of all that happens here in our vines”. – jacques begarie chief winemaker
