With a tasting room located just outside of seattle and a winery in the heart of eastern washington columbia winery embodies washington’s welcoming spirit rich diversity and exceptional wines. About the wine: our cabernet sauvignon is made to showcase the ripe dark fruit flavors washington can produce in an approachable style. With layers of complexity this wine has a firm structure and smooth tannins that lead to a broad mouthfeel and soft juicy finish. Notes of mocha and toffee complement the ripe blackberry and black currant flavors. About washington’s columbia valley ava: as washington’s largest appellation the columbia valley comprises nearly all of the state’s total vinifera grape plantings. Its volcanic well-drained sandy loam soils stress the vines to yield focused flavors in our grapes. In most parts of the columbia valley there is an average of 16 hours of sunlight and only eight inches of rainfall. This combination lends itself to the creation of unique wines with intense color flavor and structure. Vintage notes: the second consecutively warm vintage in a row for washington 2014 ha record-breaking heat in many parts of the columbia valley ava. These increased temperatures led to an early harvest by about two weeks across the valley. We are particularly excited about our reds for this vintage as we’ve seen soft tannins and ripe fruit flavors with a crisp acidity in these wines. Winemaking notes: after harvest the grapes for our cabernet sauvignon were destemmed and cold soaked for two days to capture intense color. Fermentation occurred in stainless steel tanks for up to 11 days at a maximum temperature of 90°f. Throughout fermentation we performed several rack and returns for optimal extraction of color and flavor. This wine saw both french and american oak to create wellintegrated flavors and a rich mouthfeel.” – columbia winery
