Not since the 2007 vintage have we produced a varietal Merlot. Ten years later we knew we needed to unveil our passion for this Bordeaux grape. The fleshy rich plum and red berry notes are tethered to toasty spiced vanilla–a result of 17 months in neutral French oak–generating a sturdy balance. Layers of cocoa cedar and a tea-like minerality round out the mid-palate with slightly sticky tannins bolstering the wine lending itself to a velvety lingering finish. It opens up in a massive way and pairs exceptionally well with traditionally Cabernet-paired meats–think juicy prime rib or smoky brisket. Drink now or hold for 5-7 years. – Highway 12 Winery
