Six Great American Wines

Americans have been appreciating fine wines from all over the world for decades, but what about wines made right here in the good old USA? American viticulturists have been hard at work crafting world-class wines, and winning awards around the world over the years. With wine typically recognized as a European and South American endeavor, it’s no wonder they haven’t been getting as much consumer attention.

We aim to fix that with a list of America’s top wines for 2019 from around the country.

1. Beaux Freres The Upper Terrace Pinot Noir 2014

This critically acclaimed Pinot Noir from the Oregon winery, Beaux Frères, located in the state’s Willamette Valley, was one of Vivino’s top rated wines for 2019. This wine offers a plethora of Indian spices, black cherries, black currants, forest floor and a wisp of sweet wood smoke. Structured and richly tannic, it expands gracefully over the palate for an elegantly seductive experience.

2. Kistler Chardonnay 2015

One of the top chardonnays in the country, the 2015 Kistler Chardonnay encompasses all that make California renowned for this varietal. You’ll find a nose of toasted oak, apricot, apple core, and dust while the palate features apple, lemon, pineapple and hints of toast.

3. Kamen Estate Cabernet Sauvignon

The Kamen Estate Cabernet comes from the Moon Mountain District of Sonoma Valley California, and ranks as the top Cabernet in America. Featuring an aromatic burst of intense black fruits, wild berries, dark sweet cherries, sun baked river rocks, and wood shavings followed by a lush palate of amazing fruit purity, layered complexity, and an endless finish.

4. Mark Ryan Dead Horse Red Blend

The Dead Horse Red Blend from the Red Mountain Region of the Columbia Valley in Washington State is a superb example of the region's wine cultivating abilities. Crafted of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec and Petit Verdot. Clay and cherry play across the nose while the palate swims with cherry, raspberry, vanilla, and leather.

5. Gloria Ferrer Carneros Cuvée

Located in Napa Valley on California’s North Coast, this sparkling wine is crafted from nearly equal parts Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Its beautifully nuanced texture is layered with rich nutty apple and strawberry. Dry on the palate with a balanced and crisp finish.

6. Paradigm Merlot 2014

Produced in the Oakville Region of Napa Valley, California, Paradigm’s Merlot is the Cabernet-drinker's Merlot. A big nose of vanilla and blackberry with a densely structured, fruit-forward body. Juicy, soft and extremely well-balanced, this is not your typical Merlot, but sets the standard for American Merlot.
