There’s probably hundreds, perhaps thousands of tasty ways, to celebrate Olive Day. However, in our case, we’d like to extend an olive branch—over a few martinis then shake it gently until those briny green baubles land gently on top!
Other garnishes like lemon peels or pearl onions can be used depending on the sipper’s preference or martini’s recipe, but the out-going olive is the only way to dress a martini for success!
Fortunately, you can slip into your nearby Spec’s for a world-class selection of olives and all the ingredients to make one of the stirred, not shaken martinis below.
The Classic
Ingredients
2½ oz vodka
¼ oz dry vermouth
¼ olive brine
Two green olives for garnish
Preparation
Fill a mixing glass with ice cubes and add vodka and absinthe.
Stir gently and strain into a martini glass.
Garnish with green olives on a cocktail stick.
Wall Street
Ingredients
3 oz gin
1 oz dry vermouth
1 dash bitters
Green olive for garnish
Preparation
Fill mixing glass with ice cubes. Add gin, vermouth, and bitters.
Stir gently then strain into a martini glass. Garnish with a green olive.
The Benjamin
Ingredients
1 oz gin
1 oz green chartreuse
1 oz sweet vermouth
1 dash orange bitters
Green olive for garnish
Lemon slice for garnish
Preparation
Pour gin, chartreuse, vermouth, bitters into an ice filled mixing glass Stir gently.
