Top Five German Beers to Celebrate Oktoberfest

German Beers for Oktoberfest

Guten tag! Dust off your lederhosen because the world is celebrating Oktoberfest! This holiday is traditionally celebrated in Munich from September 22nd through October 7th. Oktoberfest is a German celebration of the fall season and more importantly, beer. You can celebrate it right in your own home by trying any one of these amazing German beer picks. Prost!

Sünner Kolsch

Sünner was founded in 1830 on the “right” side of the Rhine River, in the Deutz neighborhood of Cologne, when all other breweries were on the “left” bank. This is why they use the phrase “Kölsch van seiner schönsten Seite” which means “Kölsch from the most beautiful side.”

This German beer has a spicy aromatic taste. It is very refreshing and pairs excellently with German cuisine.

Weihenstephaner Braupakt Hoppy Hefeweizen

This naturally cloudy amber beer has a firm, creamy head and fragrances of peach, apricot and citrus on the nose. The initial impression on the palate is of a bouquet of aromas, including subtle touches of banana in addition to refreshing grapefruit from the American Chinook hops.

The fruity peach and apricot notes from the Amarillo hops are balanced by the gentle sweetness of the caramel malt. This hefeweizen has a delicate tartness that melds into a harmonious mouthfeel through the finish.

Erdinger Dunkel

Carefully selected dark malts with delicate roasting aromas give Erdinger Dunkel its full-bodied flavor and strong character. This elegant beer contains a 5.3% ABV and has a lustrous deep dark-brown appearance in the glass. The first sip reveals a harmonious symphony of carefully selected wheat and barley malts with exquisite Hallertau aroma hops.

The taste buds detect hints of caramel nuts and fresh bread. An unmistakable top-fermenting accent is provided by Erdinger’s traditional yeast. Erdinger Dunkel first saw the light of day in 1989 when Erdinger’s master brewers created a dark wheat beer as a birthday present for the private brewery’s owner, Werner Brombach. He liked it so much that he decided to put it on the market in 1990.

Ayinger Oktoberfest

Ayinger Oktober Fest-Märzen is one of the most highly respected märzens in the world and consistently receives high scores on beer rating websites. It is a full-bodied rich lager with a malty bouquet and plenty of richness.

Its color is a deep amber-gold. The flavor is a perfect synchronization of malt backbone with depth complemented by ideal conditioning from long maturation. Fest-Märzen has enough hops to make it punchy and thirst quenching without being overly bitter.

Fruh Kölsch

Fruh Kölsch is an all-natural, top-fermented, original beer renowned for its malt aroma and delicate flavor of vanilla and flowery hops. The taste is crisp, clean, and refreshing. This kölsch is considered a very drinkable beer containing an unsurpassed balance in malt with soft drinkable hops. It features a pale gold in color with a great lasting head.
