Texas Independence day is a time to praise our glorious home—The Lone Star state! It was over 200 years ago, March 2, 1836, when Texas first declared independence from Mexico. And surely those early Texans tossed their hats high with jubilant shouts of “Yeehaw”! So why shouldn’t you party too? Celebrate Texas Independence Day with 5 truly Texan cocktails that’d make Sam Houston proud.

Mockingbird’s Garden

Ingredients

  • 2 oz Tito’s Handmade Vodka
  • 1/2 oz dry Vermouth
  • 1/2 oz St. Germain
  • 1/4 oz Creme de Violette
  • Dash lavender bitters

Directions

  1. Combine ingredients in cocktail shaker.
  2. Shake, strain, pour into martini glass, garnish with lemon twist and serve.

Southern Hospitality Float

Sweet tooths rejoice! Who says root beer floats have to be for kids?

  1. Scoop the ice cream into a tall glass.
  2. Pour in bourbon and top with hard root beer. Look out for the fizz and foam!

Lone Star Long Island Iced Tea

1/2 oz vodka, like Katy Trail vodka
1/2 oz gin
1/2 oz tequila
1/2 oz light rum
1/2 oz bourbon
1/2 oz fresh lemon juice
1/2 oz triple sec
1 teaspoon superfine sugar
Cold cola
Lime wheel to garnish
Place a rocks glass into the freezer for 5 minutes to chill.

Put the vodka, gin, tequila, rum, bourbon, lemon juice, triple sec, and sugar in a cocktail shaker filled with ice, and then shake the mixture vigorously for 30 seconds to combine. Strain the mixture into the prepared glass filled with fresh ice and top with the cold cola. Garnish the cocktail with the lime wheel and serve.

The Armadillo

This delicious cocktail is a take on a famous drink served at the bar of Austin’s Violet Crown Cinema. Campari is a bitter, bright red Italian liqueur; Cynar is a liqueur made from artichokes, which adds sweet, herbal notes to the mix.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 oz mezcal
  • 1/2 oz campari
  • 3/4 oz cynar
  • 1/2 oz lemon juice
  • 1/2 oz orange juice
  • Orange slice for garnish

Directions

  1. In a shaker glass packed with ice, combine all ingredients (except the garnish).
  2. Shake vigorously, then strain into a rocks glass filled with ice.
  3. Garnish with an orange slice, serve and enjoy!

Texas Sipper

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 oz Tito’s Handmade Vodka
  • 1/2 oz elderflower liqueur
  • 1 1/2 oz fresh grapefruit juice
  • Club soda or sparkling mineral water
  • Mint sprig for garnish

Directions

  1. Combine Tito’s Handmade Vodka, elderflower liqueur, and juice in a cocktail shaker with ice.
  2. Shake well and strain over fresh ice.
  3. Top with soda or sparkling water.
