Beyond the Bottle: Innovative Wine Containers

When it comes to entertaining with wine, Spec’s serves all sizes, and there are some interesting recent packaging pieces for your sipping selection. If you’re trying to test out some super sizing or unusual packaging for your wine, here’s a look at some outstanding options.

Of course you’re familiar with the 750ml and 1.5L (Magnum) formats of the traditional glass bottles, but the pouring potential of a wonderful wine doesn’t stop there!  You can also find wine in half-bottles (375ml), or splits (187ml), and if you are entertaining a large crowd you can choose to serve from a Double Magnum (3L) – or even larger, depending on the occasion.

If you’d like to branch out from bottles, look for a tetra pack, which is similar to the well-known juice box.  Of course, this squishy selection is geared towards adults who want to enjoy a wine while lounging poolside, on the beach, or any other venue that prohibits glass.

Boxed wine has long been frowned upon as an indicator of low-quality libations, but Spec’s has seen that these cardboard carafes are going upscale. Better-quality wine producers are beginning to package their wines in boxes. If you want wine with a longer shelf life while you enjoy a glass or two at a time over a longer period, these boxes contain an inner bladder that keeps the wine fresher longer since the wine is not exposed to oxygen.

Many producers are also experimenting with single-serving wine glasses with a peel top, or placing their wines in test tube-style enclosures. These one-serving wonders are marketed to major airlines as an option to the 187ml bottle in current use.

With many trying to cover the demand for wine that can be consumed in many environments, don’t be surprised if your favorite wine shows up in a curious container. Whatever your packaging preference, Spec’s will have a world-class wine for you!
