Watermelon is synonymous with summer, and Sunday is National Watermelon Day! This sweet and refreshing fruit pops up at nearly every backyard BBQ, summer picnic and weekend getaway. But why limit yourself to eating watermelon when you can drink it too? This water-rich fruit makes for a great refresher, and with just a touch of sweetness, it is the perfect addition to any cocktail! Celebrate this delicious fruit with one of our favorite watermelon drink recipes!
Watermelon Margarita
6 oz silver tequila1 ½ oz elderflower liqueur
4 ½ cups seedless watermelon, cubed
¼ tsp kosher salt
3 oz lime juice
Purée watermelon, salt, lime juice, liqueur and tequila in a blender until smooth. Pour over a mesh strainer into a pitcher. Divide among three glasses filled with ice.
Sweet & Spicy
2 oz silver tequila1 cup seedless watermelon, cubed
½ oz lime juice
¼ oz simple syrup
To rim the glass:
1 oz lime juice1 tsp kosher salt
1 tsp sugar
1 tsp chili powder
Mix salt, sugar and chili powder on a plate. Dip glass in lime juice, then in the salt mixture. Juice the watermelon and pour into an ice-filled cocktail shaker with tequila, lime juice and simple syrup. Shake well and strain into the glass.
Watermelon Refresher
2 oz white rum¾ cup seedless watermelon, cubed
1 tbsp lime juice
4 lime wedges
3-4 mint sprigs
¼ oz simple syrup
Purée watermelon and rum with 5-7 ice cubes in a blender until smooth. Muddle lime wedges, lime juice, mint sprigs and simple syrup in a cocktail shaker. Shake well and strain into glass. Top with watermelon mixture and serve.
