The State of Texas Spirits

If there’s one thing Texas does better than anyone else, it’s everything. And cooking up incredible spirits in a local Texas distillery is no different! From smoky whiskey to award winning vodka, join us as we explore a taste of Texas tipples!

This month, let’s begin with whisky and Balcones Distilling.

This distillery handcrafts all of its spirits in small batches, and they ferment, distill, age, bottle and label all of their products themselves. They don’t just make whisky in Texas; they make Texas Whisky! Seven varieties to be exact.

Their Baby Blue Whisky, which was the first Texas whisky on the market since prohibition, and is the only craft-made whisky to have received a 5-star rating from F. Paul Pacult’s Spirit Journal other than their Texas Single Malt.

Looking for something a little more smoky and bold? Check out Balcones’ Brimstone Texas Scrub Oak Smoked Corn Whisky. Rather than using Scottish peat smoke, this one-of-a-kind whisky is smoked with sun-baked Texas scrub oak using a secret process. Brimstone is the world‘s first wood smoked whisky … a Texas campfire in a bottle.

The Balcones Rumble is made from the finest local wildflower honey, mission figs, turbinado sugar and natural Texas Hill Country spring water, and aged to perfection in small oak barrels. Rumble defies categorization, both in ingredients as well as the final product. It has elements reminiscent of tequila, scotch, young cognac and rum. A one-of-a-kind Texas spirit, made with all Texas ingredients.
