Ever been equal parts hungry and lazy? So much so that you just end up stuffing some meat and cheese in your face and moving on?
Whether you knew it or not, you just dined on a charcuterie plate. Albeit a less fancy one than you’ll find in local restaurants, but we’re about to change all that!
First things first, it’s pronounced shar-cute-uh-ree. You’re welcome.
What Is Charcuterie?
The word charcuterie comes from the French and literally means cooked cold meats. A charcuterie board consists of cured meats and pâtés paired with cheeses, seasonal fruits, flavorful jams, something pickled, a few dabs of bold-flavored mustards, and a sliced baguette.
Thankfully, you can pick up all the ingredients and pair them with a bottle of wine at Spec’s!
How To Make A Charcuterie Board
When creating your charcuterie board, you want to use a variety of thinly sliced, cured meats and salami. Try to use three or more selections to give your guests an assortment of flavors.
Cured meats: Dry Coppa, Prosciutto, Salami, and Calabrese are excellent choices.
Pâtés/Mousse: Duck & Truffle, Chicken/Turkey, Chicken/Veal, Truffle Mousse Pate
Cheeses: Gouda, Blue, Brie, and Sheep Truffle work wonderfully.
Pickled: Cornichons
Mustard: Dijon or Stone Ground
Jams: Jalapeno, Pineapple, Dewberry, or Fig
