To eggnog, or eggnot – that is the holiday cocktail question. In celebration of National Eggnog Day, we say EGGNOG!
Americans consume 135 million pounds of eggnog each year. Are you doing your part?! Peak consumption occurs the week before Thanksgiving the week of Christmas and the week after Christmas.
You can take your affinity for eggnog far beyond the drink itself. Whether it’s caramels, beard oils, lip balms or candles, the flavor of eggnog currently knows no bounds. There are many alternatives to the original eggnog recipe. For example, in Germany, many of the local recipes include beer. Here are a couple of our favorite alternative recipes below:
Pumpkin Eggnog
750 ml rum12 eggs*
1 cup superfine sugar
5 cups whole milk
1 tsp vanilla extract
½ tsp ground cinnamon
½ cup pumpkin puree
Whipped cream & grated nutmeg for garnish
Separate the egg yolks from the egg whites. Beat the egg yolks until creamy. Slowly add half of the sugar, beating at high speed until thick. Stir in milk, rum, vanilla, cinnamon and pumpkin puree. Refrigerate for at least two hours.
Beat the eggs whites until soft peaks form, slowly adding the remaining sugar. Continue beating into stiff peaks. Fold the egg whites into the chilled mixture. Garnish with whipped cream and grated nutmeg.
Easy Eggless Eggnog
½ tsp rum1 package instant vanilla pudding mix
6 cups milk
½ tsp rum flavored extract
¼ tsp nutmeg
½ cup vanilla ice cream
Whipped cream for garnish
To make the pudding, stir the mix with 2 cups of milk in a bowl and let it sit for 5min. Add remaining ingredients and refrigerate. Serve with whipped cream.
